Overview

The Grand Canyon is a place like no other, in fact, it’s one of the seven wonders of the world. This Expedition is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Grand Canyon like so few people do. Approximately 5 million people visited the grand canyon in 2024, among them, only 27,000 experienced the towering canyon walls and thunderous rapids from rafts. That’s .005 of all visitors who chose high adventure in the Big Ditch. And with reason too - rafting through the Grand Canyon is tough. It requires endurance, strength, and a deep familiarity with thriving through discomfort. Oh and maybe a love for thrilling, unpredictable whitewater day in and day out.

This is a special opportunity for Team RWB. Not because seats are hard to come by to raft the Canyon, but because we, Eagle Nation, were invited to support a pair of adaptive veteran athletes who have been whitewater kayaking for years, and this is their chance to run the formidable Colorado river through the Grand Canyon. With the help of their paddle support team, we will rally as one team and show the Colorado river what Team RWB is all about: community, grit, and camaraderie.

This Expedition will cover 224 miles of the Colorado river, through the entirety of Grand Canyon National Park. It’s no small endeavor, in fact, it’ll take 12 days of hard work to descend to the takeout at Diamond Creek. Along the way you’ll learn all about the rich history of the Grand Canyon from indigenous culture, geology, hydrology, and the first run down the Colorado river by naturalists and cartographers from the 1800s.

Team RWB offers and encourages Eagles to fundraise for epic experiences not so you can attend this Expedition, but so the next Eagle can attend a future Expedition. Eagle Expeditions are subsidized opportunities and with the power of fundraising, participants have the chance to experience a once in a lifetime trip for only the cost of travel to the meetup point and personal expenses.

  • Expect to sleep in tents and under the stars for the duration of your time on the river. It’ll be an experience like no other, under the desert skies! Eagles will enjoy three square meals, expertly prepared by the guide team, along with snacks. Oh, it’ll be real food, no freeze-dried camping meals on this trip! While there won’t be indoor toilets, river trips utilize a special toilet system called a “Groover” - so you won’t need to dig a hole like you did on those field ops!

FUN FACT:

At 8000’ elevation, the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is a place unlike any other. Compared to the rest of the Grand Canyon, and surrounding desert ecosystem, the North Rim is home to a more alpine environment, with meadows, diverse forests, and cooler temperatures compared to the South Rim.

“I met a great group of Eagles and felt an instant, natural connection with fellow veterans who enjoyed the outdoors, enjoyed the challenging physical activity, and enjoying sharing laughs and struggles together.

For any Eagle out there, new or having been around for a number of years, I encourage you to reach outside your comfort zone and sign up for an expedition that interests you!”
