Behavior Change

Why “I’ll Start on Monday” Actually Makes Sense
If you’ve ever said, “I’ll start on Monday,” and then felt bad when it didn’t happen exactly as planned, you’re not alone. Despite what we’re often told, waiting for a Monday, a new month, or even a new year isn’t a weakness—it’s often part of how real behavior change works.
Lasting change doesn’t begin with action. It begins with awareness, intention, and preparation.
Change Isn’t a Switch—It’s a Process
The Transtheoretical Model of Behavior Change reminds us that change happens in stages. Many people move from precontemplation (not really thinking about change yet), to contemplation (considering it), to preparation (making a plan), before they ever take action.
That time before you “start” matters. It’s when you notice your habits, think through what you want to change, and decide what support you’ll need. Jumping straight into action without working through these early stages often leads to frustration—not because you failed, but because the groundwork wasn’t there yet.
When You Slip Back, You’re Not Starting Over
One important thing to know about behavior change is that it isn’t linear. People often move forward, then back again—sometimes even after they’ve started taking action. This kind of relapse can happen after any stage, including precontemplation, and it does not mean failure.
Relapse is information. It shows you what got in the way, what wasn’t realistic, or where more support is needed. Each time you revisit an earlier stage, you’re not resetting to zero—you’re bringing experience with you.
Why Structure Helps at the Action Stage
Once you’re ready to take action, having a clear plan matters. Structure reduces decision fatigue and makes it easier to show up consistently. That’s where simple, well-designed tools can make a big difference.
Use Challenges as Your Starting Point
Team RWB challenges and activity groups are built to support the action stage of behavior change. They give you a clear start date, a defined focus, and a community moving alongside you. Instead of asking, “What should I do next?” you can plug into something that’s already laid out.
Whether you’re waiting for Monday, the next challenge window, or just the right moment, you’re not behind—you’re preparing. And when you’re ready to take action, our challenges and activity groups are here to help you start strong and keep going.
