About the Old Glory Ultra Relay
On 2 May 2025, twelve courageous military Veterans began an epic coast‑to‑coast relay from San Diego, CA, to Washington, DC carrying a single American flag. Their goal? Set a world record and raise $1 million for Veteran health and wellness.
Through blistering heat, driving rain, snowy mountain passes, bustling cities, and the stillness of night, the flag never stopped moving.
On 18 May, after 3,002 unbroken miles, they carried that very same flag onto the National Mall—setting a new world record for continuously relaying a single American flag across the United States.
They showed the nation what’s possible when we prioritize our health and wellness and serve a purpose greater than ourselves.

Peter Consalvi, a 29-year-old Navy veteran, served as a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer on ships in Spain and Japan. During his service, he discovered a passion for ultramarathons, winning his first 50k and completing a 100-mile race. After separating from Active Duty in 2023, Peter embarked on an ambitious year-and-a-half bicycle ride for charity from Mongolia to Spain, showcasing his commitment to adventure and service. -

Cole DeRosa

Cole DeRosa, a recently retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and Wounded Warrior, served for over 28 years with multiple combat deployments. An accomplished Army Ranger and decorated veteran, Cole has seamlessly transitioned his military discipline into the world of functional fitness and obstacle course racing. He's a champion in HYROX events and has achieved 136 podium finishes in Spartan Races, showcasing his exceptional athleticism and determination.

Now retired, Johnny's traded his combat boots for running shoes, but he hasn't lost his grit. Whether he's bow hunting, farming, or crushing miles, this simple guy from Brinson proves that a veteran's fire never dies - it just finds new missions. -

From Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) to ultra-running beast, Zack brings the kind of grit you only find in an NCO who's taken on 330-mile unsupported ultras...for fun. After serving 25+ years in the Army, including combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, he traded his tank commander seat for trail running shoes. His ultra resume? Just casual stuff like 10+ Last Man Standing events, the Georgia Death Race and crushing the Race of the South's 330-mile unsupported challenge. No big deal.

With course records falling and 100-miler victories under his belt, Jordan's bringing that unstoppable Eagle Fire to the Old Glory Ultra Relay. From signing up for Army service with his mother's signature in 2001 to becoming an ultra-endurance crew chief, Roel Gonzalez has always pushed beyond expectations. What started as a half marathon at Al Asad Airbase evolved into a lifelong pursuit of endurance challenges and supporting others. He's not just a finisher—he's the force behind countless athletes' success stories, crewing legendary races like Badwater 135, Hardrock 100, and Moab 240.

Jason Wood, a U.S. Army veteran with three combat tours, found healing and purpose through endurance challenges after struggling with PTSD and other issues post-service. He's completed numerous ultra-distance events, including running 150 miles in 48 hours on a treadmill for charity. Jason is now preparing to run across the country for Team RWB, aiming to inspire others and support veterans through physical and social activity. -

Jeremy Adams

Jeremy is an Army Veteran and accomplished marathon runner who defied the odds after being injured in an IED blast in Afghanistan in 2011. Told he might never walk again, he’s since gone on to crush finish lines and expectations alike. A proud member of Team RWB, Jeremy says, “There aren’t enough words to describe the impact on my life... It has inspired me to continue chasing the best version of myself each and every day.”

Joshua Kraus is a U.S. Navy Veteran, Search and Rescue (SAR) Swimmer, and ultra-endurance athlete. His mission—“So Others May Live”—now drives his pursuit of endurance excellence. Zachary Polega, a West Point graduate and former Infantry Officer, served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division and 2D Ranger BN. After overcoming significant injuries from a grenade explosion during a special operations mission, Zach transformed his passion for human performance into a purpose. He's a two-time DOD Warrior Games competitor for Team SOCOM and now works to improve warfighter readiness with Oura Ring's Human Performance Team. -

Gavin Woody, a West Point and Stanford MBA graduate, is a seasoned operations executive and endurance athlete. He has completed over 100 ultramarathons, including wins at prestigious events like the Iditarod Trail Invitational 350 and Bigfoot 200. Gavin's commitment to service extends beyond his military career, as he serves on nonprofit boards supporting outdoor education and avalanche safety in the Pacific Northwest.
How the Relay Works

Our 12 Veterans have been split into 3 teams of 4 to accomplish this relay. They will run with the flag in shifts. Each team will have their own RV and they will leapfrog the route pacing 8 hours ahead of each other.

One runner at a time will carry the flag. Each team will have an 8-hour shift where they are responsible for moving approximately 62 miles per shift. Teams will stay on the same shift throughout.

Moving this flag across the nation requires crew. We’re grateful to have a team doctor, mechanic, alternate runner, 4 full-time logistics and support staff members from Team RWB, along with a media crew and a documentary crew.

Vehicles: Our partners at BMW of North America have provided us with custom wrapped BMW X7s for our support and media staff.
Each team has one rented RV to support their journey.

This American flag, carried and flown in combat, embodies the spirit of resilience and duty. Purchased in 2009, it was carried by a U.S. Army Special Forces officer, Team RWB’s incoming Executive Director Michael Sullivan, during multiple operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
On June 14, 2009, Flag Day, it flew over the command post at Camp Bastion, watching over soldiers who were deep in the fight. That same year, it accompanied elite U.S. and Afghan forces on one of the most significant missions of the campaign: FRAGO 6 of Operation Siege Engine.
This high-risk strike targeted the Loy Choreh Bazaar in the Taliban stronghold of Nad-e Ali - a key hub for narcotics trafficking and insurgent operations. Intelligence had confirmed it was home to fortified drug labs, enemy stockpiles, and a shadow Taliban government controlling the region’s opium trade.
The strike force was a coalition of warriors: U.S. Army Green Berets, Navy SEALs, DEA FAST agents, Close Air Support teams (from the U.S. and British military), Afghan Commandos, and Special Police. Their mission was clear, cripple Taliban finances, take out key leaders, and dismantle a key funding source of the insurgency.
Through it all, this flag was there - raised high over battle, carried into danger, and surviving the chaos of war. Today, it stands as a symbol of the men and women who fought beneath it, the operations it endured, and the unshakable spirit of those who served.It flew in battle. It stood defiant. And it came home.
