5 Hydration Tips for Summer
“Hydrate!” It’s not something drill sergeants yell for shits and giggles. They have a valid reason.
Staying hydrated is crucial for optimal health, especially in warmer weather or when we increase our physical activity. Why? It helps prevent dehydration.
Dehydration can cause mental haziness, mood changes, constipation, kidney stones, and overheating. The scary part? Almost all Americans (75%) suffer from chronic dehydration.
As the weather heats up and activities throughout Eagle Nation pick up, we want to make sure you “Hydrate!”
Here are 5 tips to help you stay hydrated this summer:
Drink plenty of water. Drinking water is the easiest and most effective way to stay hydrated. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water per day and increase your intake if you are sweating excessively or spending time in the sun.
Eat water-rich foods. Incorporate water-rich foods such as watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and oranges into your diet to help boost your hydration levels. These foods not only hydrate you but also provide essential micronutrients.
Set a hydration reminder. It’s easy to forget to drink water when you’re busy or distracted. Consider setting a reminder on your phone or computer to help you drink enough water throughout the day.
Carry a water bottle with you. Make it a habit to carry a refillable water bottle with you wherever you go. This will help ensure that you always have access to water and make it easier to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Consider adding electrolytes. When you sweat, you lose electrolytes along with water. Consider adding an electrolyte supplement or drinking an electrolyte-rich beverage to help replenish these important minerals.
Follow these tips to help ensure you get enough water and stay hydrated during the hot summer months.
