Moving Forward: We All Play a Crucial Role

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.” - George Washington

Earlier this month, the U.S. military marked the 50th anniversary of our all-volunteer force. The occasion sparked passionate discussions on social media and in the news alike because our nation is facing a dangerous recruitment crisis.

But what does that have to do with Team RWB?  A lot, actually.  We all have a crucial part to play, and together, as Eagle Nation, we have the power to create real change. With our partners, supporters, and individuals like you and me, we're already in a prime position to make a difference.

The quote I started this note with is one of my longtime favorites, and is one that I reference often in my work at Team RWB. I wholeheartedly believe that when our partners like Neuro, HOIST, or Lids host giveback campaigns (all three have done so this month alone), they’re not only proving their commitment to America’s veterans—they are showing future generations that the nation appreciates its service members and veterans.

Earlier this year, two giants of Major League Baseball, Austin Riley and Aaron Nola, independently organized events to champion the health and well-being of veterans by hosting fundraisers to support Team RWB. They showed their fans, their communities—and potential service members— that our country stands united in supporting service and sacrifice.

The final piece of this puzzle is you—the embodiment of our mission. When you wear the Eagle, you're showing the nation you're proud of your service. And when those contemplating military life witness veterans proudly wearing that pride on their sleeves (chest, back or head!), it shows them that military service is something to aspire to.

So my challenge to you is simple: Be proud of your service and represent Team RWB as often as you can.  Share pictures on social media of you flying the Eagle, especially during a workout.  Remind others—and yourself in the process—that you did something great by stepping forward to serve the American people.
