BUFFALO, N.Y. - Events across Western New York today will pay tribute to the 2,977 victims of the 2001 terror attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Team RWB Buffalo is holding a "Moving Tribute" from dawn until dusk carrying two flags around Ring Road in Delaware Park, stopping for moments of silence at the times of the crashes and tower collapses. Row upon row of flags stand outside the American Red Cross on Delaware Avenue, honoring each of the victims. Erie Community College's North Campus will hold a memorial and flag-raising ceremony at 9:20 a.m. There will be a wreath laying and reading of the names at Amherst's Memorial Hill Grove, located along the Ellicott Creek Trailway. The VA in Batavia is holding a remembrance ceremony and outreach event from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In addition, many Western New Yorkers will be taking part in the national day of service that was declared on this date in 2009.
